MY FAVORITE PLACES FOR BIRD WATCHING

 

CIÉNAGA EL LLANITO (SANTANDER) Parte I

The Magdalena River runs through the country from south to north, and is undoubtedly a privileged valley for bird watching, it can be reached from the main cities of the country, Bogotá, Ibagué, Medellín, Bucaramanga and Barranquilla. Among its trees it is common to find the Samán (Samanea saman), the Diomate (Astronium glaveolens) and the Abarco (Cariniana pyriformis), among many others.

El Río Magdalena recorre el país de sur a norte, y es sin duda un valle privilegiado para el avistamiento de aves, puede llegarse a él desde las principales ciudades del país, Bogotá, Ibagué, Medellín, Bucaramanga y Barranquilla. Entre sus árboles es común encontrar el Samán (Samanea saman), el Diomate (Astronium graveolens) y el Abarco (Cariniana pyriformis), entre muchísimos más.

FABACEAE  Samanea saman

“Samán” or “campano” (bell). It is a large tree. It can exceed 20 m in height and 1 m in diameter in the trunk. The crown is wide and extended, it can measure about 40 m in diameter, exceptionally up to 55 m. The dark brown seeds are covered with a sweet and edible substance.

El samán o campano. Es un árbol grande, puede sobrepasar los 20 m de altura y 1 m de diámetro en el tronco. La copa es amplia y extendida, puede medir cerca de 40 m de diámetro, excepcionalmente hasta 55 m. Las semillas de color marrón oscuro están cubiertas de una sustancia dulce y comestible.
